Tyscot Records and Artists Shine with Six Stellar Award Nominations
Tyscot Records, renowned as the longest-standing African American owned gospel label in the country, and its artists have secured six nominations for the upcoming 39th annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards.
Among the nominees is John P. Kee, celebrated for timeless tracks like “Jesus is Real” and “Standing in the Need.” Kee is up for awards for his heartfelt project that pays homage to his musical guide and spiritual leader, Bishop Rance Allen, who passed away in 2020. The album, “Tribute to a Legend: Rance Allen, Chapter One” by Kee Music Group, showcases talents such as Kelontae Gavin, Deitrick Haddon, and Gene Moore. A standout track is a fresh take on Allen’s iconic “Something About the Name Jesus,” featuring Zacardi Cortez, Melvin Crispell II, Lewis Sky, and a sample of Allen himself. This album has brought Kee nominations for Traditional Male Artist of the Year and Special Event Album of the Year.
Anthony Brown & group therAPy are also making waves with their sixth album, “Affirmations” (Key of A / Fair Trade), which has garnered nominations in both Duo/Chorus Group of the Year and Contemporary Duo/Chorus Group of the Year. The lead single “Speak Your Name” topped the Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart, while their latest, “Up Up Up,” climbs its ranks.
Louisiana’s own Bri Babineaux is generating buzz with her first musical endeavor in three years. Her latest single, “I Will Wait” (Bri Babineaux Music, LLC), has hit No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Airplay chart, and its music video has brought director Avery Henley a nomination.
Lastly, VaShawn Mitchell’s album “Chapter X: See the Goodness” (V Man/ FairTrade) has earned him a nomination for Praise and Worship Album of the Year, bolstered by the success of “See the Goodness,” a duet with Donnie McClurkin.
The Stellar Gospel Music Awards are set to dazzle audiences on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Join us in celebrating these inspiring nominations and the enduring impact of gospel music at Wayvve Radio.
